Each year we are invited to parade our Standard at the ceremony at Chaunay honouring local Resistance members who were executed on the side of the main street of the town. This year's ceremony was even more special in that a presentation of an award of honour to Madam BLANCHE TERRANOVA from the Association Nationale Le Souvenir Français in recognition of services to her country. Mme TERRANOVE joined the Resistance in occupied France in 1940 at the age of 16 and was active until the Liberation in 1945. It is a great honour to be in the presence of living history and especially of one so brave. A sense of reconciliation prevails, nonetheless, and the words of the Mayor’s speech reflected upon the huge benefits of a united Europe, this was further demonstrated by the playing of the European Anthem before the British and then the French National Anthems.
